Poolside Beach

Part of a group residency by Artspace Studios Galway at the Docks Shed, Middle Pier, Galway Harbour. Artist were asked to respond to the location of the residency. Using a seaside pool from the town of Belmullet, Ireland as a visual cue and incorporating the Currach (an Irish wood and canvas boat) I wanted to create a piece that played with ideas of confinement and retention and the desire to liberate oneself from these entanglements. The imagery was intentionally cliche, the extrication from Oirish-isms being a subject that I wanted to employ into the work.
